Spo-ka’nay Enterprises LLC (Spo-ka’nay) is a tribally focused communications and consultancy firm headquartered in Spokane, Washington. We are a woman- and American Indian-owned small business that provides core services in professional writing, technical assistance, and training. Ancillary service areas include facilitation, research, and community-based evaluation services, as well as health literacy, science, and Indigenous cultures experience. We build relational partnerships with our customers to inspire and enrich efforts in finding tailor-made solutions. Spo-ka’nay enjoys collaborating and building relationships that lead to strong partnerships. And as appropriate, Spo-ka’nay plays the best role for the greatest impact, whether as a lead, collaborator, partner, or subject matter experts. To honor her American Indian heritage and roots, owner and founder Maria Griffin named her company Spo-ka’nay, derived from Interior Salish, Sp’q’ni, for Spokane. Maria combines her lived experience as an Indigenous woman (citizen of the Spokane Tribe of Indians and descendent of the Moses Band/Colville Confederated Tribes) with her education, and her wealth of professional experience to Spo-ka’nay. Spo-ka’nay began as a sole proprietorship under Technically Written in 1998 and expanded to include Spo-ka’nay Trading Company. In 2021 came a name change and LLC. We value the abilities and contributions of all partners, collaborative teamwork, continuous quality improvement, and strive for integrity in our results-oriented work. We are committed to equity, restorative justice, cultural safety, and anti-racism. For over 35 years, we have developed, created, written, revised, and edited numerous documents (e.g., product and process manuals, grant and contract proposals, health literacy toolkits and reports, white papers, presentations, and curriculum development). We provide consultancy at all levels of organizational development.
