The pathway to a new set of skills is simple!
Step One: BUILDING SCIENCE CURRICULUM
One Day, In-Class Education
- Introductory curriculum designed to build your foundation in building science.
- Covers key principles of energy efficiency, home performance, and diagnostic methods.
- Prepares you to take the Building Science Principles (BSP) Certificate exam, the required prerequisite for BA-T training.
- Interactive format with opportunities to learn directly from experienced contractors and past trainees.
Next Step: After completing this curriculum, you will schedule and take your BSP exam online at your own pace.

Step Two: BSP CERTIFICATION EXAM
The BSP certificate is a required prerequisite to advance to the Building Analyst Technician (BA-T) level. Participants complete the BSP exam independently on their own schedule.Â

Step Three: BUILDING ANALYST TECHNICIAN (BA-T) TRAINING
Four Days, In-Person Training
- Training includes use of industry-standard diagnostic equipment (blower doors, infrared cameras, combustion analyzers, etc.).
- Field component takes place at an unoccupied home to provide real-world practice.
- Training content directly prepares you for the BA-T exam.

Step Four: BUILDING ANALYST TECHNICIAN EXAM
- 3-4 hour comprehensive exam covering both classroom knowledge and hands-on field testing.
- Scheduled individuallyÂ
- Results typically available within 2–3 weeks.
What You’ll Gain
Upon successful completion, participants receive their BPI Building Analyst Technician Certificate — a nationally recognized credential in the home performance and energy efficiency industry.
